Some journeys offer views. Ours offer meaning.
African Safari Collective brings together six independently owned lodges—each one rooted in community, committed to conservation, and designed for travellers who value luxury with a light footprint. From the Drakensberg mountains of KwaZulu-Natal to the sun-drenched coastline of Plettenberg Bay, this curated journey is spectacular, sustainable, and deeply soulful.
Let’s take you there.
First stop: Leopard Mountain Lodge, a 5-star, award-winning safari escape in the Big 5 Manyoni Private Game Reserve. With panoramic views across untamed valleys, elegant suites with private plunge pools, and warm hospitality, Leopard Mountain offers a deeply restorative connection to nature. Guests can take part in conservation experiences such as pangolin walks or rhino education, supported by the Zululand Conservation Trust.
Nearby in the Zuka Private Game Reserve, Sungulwane Private Game Lodge offers an intimate safari with just eight suites—two designed for families. Set apart by its photographic hide, Sungulwane invites guests to quietly observe wildlife from eye level, capturing nature at its most unfiltered. Conservation plays a central role here, protecting endangered species and preserving biodiversity.
On the western shores of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, Makakatana Bay Lodge is the only privately owned lodge in this UNESCO-listed wonderland. Explore hippo-filled estuaries, walk forested trails, and enjoy day trips to the Indian Ocean. With solar-powered boats and a deep commitment to community, Makakatana brings guests into harmony with land and lake.
In the Drakensberg’s rolling foothills, Three Tree Hill Lodge is a haven for active travellers and families. Set against sweeping mountain views, this Fair Trade Tourism-certified lodge invites guests to hike, ride horses, and connect with the land. Children are considered children until 18, and every generation is embraced.
For those drawn to history and storytelling, Fugitives’ Drift Lodge offers a powerful exploration of South Africa’s past. Expert-led battlefield tours bring the Anglo-Zulu War to life at Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift, offering thought-provoking context and moving accounts.
In the hills above Plettenberg Bay, Fairview House is an elegant Cape Dutch-style retreat overlooking the Keurbooms Nature Reserve. Just minutes from beaches, bird reserves, and wine farms, Fairview offers space to breathe and unwind in understated style. With only eight rooms and sweeping views, it’s the perfect beginning—or end—to your journey.
