Africa

Africa is home to some of the world’s most dynamic and innovative place branding initiatives, yet these efforts often go unrecognised on the global stage. Now, there’s an opportunity to change that.

The Place Brand Observer is putting together a special edition of its Place Brand Leaders series, focused on Africa and the Middle East. This is a unique chance to showcase the places that are setting benchmarks in strategic, sustainable, and innovative place branding. Whether it’s a destination excelling in tourism, a region boosting economic development, or a city strengthening its global reputation, this initiative aims to highlight best practices and celebrate those making a real impact.

Why It Matters

Place branding is more than just marketing—it is about shaping a destination’s identity, reputation, and future. Strong place branding can attract investment, tourism, and talent, ultimately driving sustainable development and prosperity. Africa has a wealth of stories to tell in this space, and this special edition will ensure they receive the attention they deserve.

How You Can Get Involved

Nominate up to five places in Africa that you believe deserve recognition for their exceptional place branding efforts. Your insights will help shine a light on the continent’s leaders in this field.

How to Submit Your Nominations

The process is straightforward:

  • Name of the place(s) you are nominating
  • A short paragraph explaining why it deserves recognition
  • Contact details (name, function, LinkedIn, or email) of a key contact person

Nominations are open until 31 March 2025, and all contributions will play a crucial role in shaping the final publication.

For an idea of how this special edition will take shape, see the recently published 2025 yearbook (and the 2024 edition) at placebrandobserver.com/yearbooks.
