As South Africa's Tourism Month celebrations draw to a close, with Tourism Month and World Tourism Day celebrations set to take place at DP World Wanderers Stadium on 27 September, Joburg Tourism is wrapping up a vibrant month of destination promotion on a high note through its participation in two of Johannesburg's flagship events: the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz on 25 and 26 September and the much anticipated Pink Day One Day International (ODI) on 27 September.

The two events showcase the very best of Johannesburg's diverse tourism offering, bringing together culture, creativity, entertainment, sport and local enterprise while attracting thousands of visitors to the city.

Throughout Tourism Month, Joburg Tourism has encouraged residents and visitors to explore more of Johannesburg's attractions, experiences and hidden gems. Its participation at Joy of Jazz and Pink Day represents a fitting finale to a month dedicated to celebrating the tourism sector's contribution to economic growth, job creation and destination development.

At the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, Joburg Tourism will once again host the ever-popular Jazzy Joburg Market, featuring 25 arts, crafts and cultural SMMEs from across the city. The market provides a valuable platform for local entrepreneurs and creatives to showcase and sell their products while connecting with local and international festivalgoers.

Visitors can browse a diverse selection of handcrafted products, fashion, accessories, artwork, cultural artefacts and unique Johannesburg-inspired creations, all while supporting local businesses and experiencing the city's thriving creative economy.

The following day, on 27 September, Joburg Tourism will take the Tourism Month celebrations to the cricket field at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Illovo, during Pink Day featuring the clash between Proteas and Australia.

Cricket fans can visit the Joburg Tourism activation area, where they will have the opportunity to engage with the destination, participate in fun activities, win exciting prizes and discover the wide range of attractions, events, accommodation establishments, restaurants, heritage sites and experiences available across Johannesburg.

"Tourism Month is an opportunity to celebrate our city's diverse tourism offering and to remind residents and visitors alike of the incredible experiences available right here in Johannesburg," says Belu Mabandla, Executive Head: Destination Marketing and Events at Joburg Tourism.

"Wrapping up Tourism Month with two iconic events such as Joy of Jazz and Pink Day perfectly reflects Johannesburg's unique appeal. Our city thrives on the energy of world-class events that bring people together through culture, music, sport and entertainment while creating opportunities for local businesses and tourism operators."

The inclusion of 25 SMMEs in the Jazzy Joburg Market further highlights Joburg Tourism's commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs and strengthening the creative and cultural sectors that contribute to Johannesburg's visitor economy.

As South Africa joins the global tourism community in marking World Tourism Day on 27 September, Joburg Tourism also recognises this year's theme: "Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism."

The theme highlights how technological innovation, digital tools and artificial intelligence are helping shape the future of tourism by improving destination discovery, enhancing visitor experiences and creating more personalised travel opportunities.

Johannesburg continues to embrace innovation while remaining grounded in the authentic experiences that define the city. Through digital platforms and visitor services, travellers can seamlessly discover attractions, events and experiences while enjoying the vibrant culture, rich heritage and warm hospitality that make Johannesburg unique.

"As the world celebrates World Tourism Day 2026, Johannesburg continues to embrace innovation while recognising that technology can never replace authentic human experiences," says Mabandla.

"AI may be your exploration partner, but Joburg is your fulfilment partner. Whether you're enjoying world-class jazz, cheering on the Proteas, supporting local creatives or discovering a new neighbourhood, Johannesburg offers meaningful experiences that create lasting memories. As we conclude Tourism Month, we invite everyone to continue exploring, experiencing and celebrating Africa's playground."
