Experience the Best of Marine Wildlife in Gansbaai with Marine Dynamics

As winter sets in along the South African coast, something magical begins in the waters off Gansbaai — the arrival of the Southern Right Whales. Migrating here between June and December to mate and calve, these gentle giants offer unforgettable viewing opportunities. Marine Dynamics, is thrilled to announce that Southern Right whale season is officially underway, and we’re already experiencing spectacular sightings!

While the Southern Rights are the stars of the season, marine life in Gansbaai never really takes a break. Throughout the year, guests enjoy sightings of Bryde’s whales, and also witness the awe-inspiring migration of Humpback whales, known for their acrobatic breaches and haunting songs.

Tours are more than just whale watching. They offer a chance to witness the incredible Marine Big Five – whales, dolphins, seals, sharks, and the critically endangered African penguin – all in one experience. From the start of this year, there've been phenomenal sightings, including pods of playful dolphins, large groups of Cape Fur seals, and numerous penguins around Dyer Island.

And yes — there are sharks! Marine Dynamics operates in Shark Alley, a world-renowned hotspot for shark activity. They proudly offer guests the chance to see and learn about these misunderstood apex predators. Shark sightings are anchored by the impressive Bronze Whaler sharks, which can be seen from the boat and during shark cage diving trips. There are also regular encounters with Broadnose Sevengill sharks, an ancient species known for their unique appearance and graceful movement. Guests also often spot the impressive Short-tail stingray, gliding silently through the shallows — a fascinating and memorable encounter.
