This October, AWOL Tours launches a landmark cycling adventure: the inaugural scheduled Garden Route Gravel Biking Tour, led personally by founding director Sally Petersen.
Over six or twelve unforgettable days, cyclists will discover some of South Africa’s most iconic routes - from dramatic coastlines and ancient forests to rugged mountain passes and wildlife-rich reserves.

6-Day Cape Town to Addo Sampler
Trace the Atlantic coastline, ride through Knysna’s lush forests, and explore the wild Tsitsikamma coast before ending with a safari in Addo Elephant National Park. Along the way, cycle the historic Seven Passes, visit Plettenberg Bay, and unwind each night in handpicked lodges.12-Day Epic Journey
Extend the adventure into the Little Karoo, conquering the legendary Swartberg Pass, exploring the Cango Caves, and winding through the sandstone gorges of Seweweekspoort. The journey finishes with a celebratory wine tasting in Bonnievale before returning to Cape Town.

Each itinerary blends daily supported rides with cultural and natural highlights: from braais under the stars and optional Robberg hikes, to vintage car sunset drives and Big Five game drives. With a support crew handling luggage, mechanicals, and refreshments, cyclists can simply enjoy the ride.
