2010 Transportation options for visitors

The Gautrain link between O.R. Tambo International Airport and Sandton will be operational from 8 June 2010. The trains will be available from 05h30 to 20h30 daily. Telephone 0800 4288 7246 or visit www.gautrain.co.za. The fare from the airport to Sandton is R100. The airport to Sandton route is serviced by a shuttle bus during the Soccer World Cup every 15 minutes at the Bus Terminal when the Gautrain is not in operation.

Approved Taxi operator ORTIATA may be found outside the international and domestic arrivals terminal. In order to pre-book a taxi the contact details are as follows +27 11 390 1502, e-mail info@ortiata.co.za Fares are approximately R15,50 (US $2) per kilometre.

A bus service from O.R. Tambo International Airport to Pretoria and Johannesburg CBDs runs from the 1 June to 14 July (every 10 to 15 minutes, 24-hours-a-day) and to Sandton during the hours when the Gautrain is not in operation (i.e. 20h30 to 05h30 from 4 June) The fare is R120 and boarding is at the Bus Terminal. A bus service from O.R. Tambo International Airport to Nelspruit, Rustenburg, Bloemfontein and Polokwane (city to city transfers on non match days and city to stadium transfers on match days). Boarding is at the off-airport, long-term parking, which is serviced by a shuttle from the airport. Fares approximately R120 to R260. Visit www.2010pts.co.za to view schedules or see attachments.

Hotel shuttle buses to various hotels run from the Bus Terminal behind the Southern Sun Intercontinental Hotel. Visitors are requested to contact their hotel for details.

Intercity Express operates a service from O.R. Tambo International Airport to Durban. The contact details are as follows: telephone +27 11 390 3798 or website www.intercity.co.za. The fare is approximately R230 from the airport to Durban. Coaches leave the airport at 07h15 and 20h30.

A free shuttle service is provided to the Ekurhuleni Welcome Village at the Dries Niemand park, only a few minutes from the airport. Boarding is at the Bus Terminal. Visit the Ekurhuleni welcome desk at domestic arrivals for more information.

A train service provided by Metrorail from Rhodesfield Station (close to O.R. Tambo International Airport) to stadia on match days. Visit www.airports.co.za for departure schedules.

Visitors with mobility impairments are advised to utilise approved taxi operators or the Gautrain service. Hand controlled cars are available from most car rental companies by pre-arrangement. Contact 0860ROLLING (7655464) for further information.

The lower roadway will be closed to general public from 1June to 31 July. It will be used by accredited tour operators with 22 or more seater vehicles as well as FIFA approved vehicles. Parkades are to be used when collecting arriving passengers.
